On September 26, 2011 the Autumn Commencement Ceremony was held at Kyushu University 50th Memorial Auditorium on the Hakozaki Campus, where 37 students were awarded with bachelor’s degrees, 90 with master’s degrees, 3with professional degrees, and 150 with doctoral degrees.

This marked the first time that a commencement ceremony was held for bachelor’s, master’s, professional, and doctoral courses at the same time in the autumn term.

Students who had met the graduation requirements after April this year attended the ceremony. Diplomas were awarded to the representatives of each course by President Arikawa.

At the ceremony, President Arikawa delivered a farewell address to the graduates, saying, “Even if you should face a perceived unprecedented difficulty, I want you to face up to overcome it using all the experience and knowledge you have developed here at Kyushu University.”

And, on behalf of the graduates, Yongning Song of the doctoral course of the Graduate School of Human-Environment Studies gave an address in reply, saying, “Whatever difficulties might come my way, I will carve out my own path on the strength of what I have learned at Kyushu University.”

After the ceremony, graduates snapped photos with their families against trees whose leaves had just begun to turn color.
