Response to the Confirmed Cases of the New H1N1 Strain of Influenza
 at Nanadaisen: Issue 2

Katsumi Imaizumi
WG Manager, Kyushu University Pandemic Influenza Crisis Management Headquarters

13 members of the Kyushu University Badminton Club who participated in Nanadaisen (the Seven Former Imperial Universities' General Athletic Competition) have presented fever and other flu symptoms. Three of them tested positive for the new influenza virus and 10 are suspected of having contracted the virus due to group infection. All of these students are currently being treated at home.
To prevent further spread of the infection, the badminton club has been ordered by the university to suspend activities until August 24th. Meanwhile, other clubs involved in the athletic meet are being requested to take appropriate measures in the event that any member develops a fever. These measures include refraining from conducting their usual activities and paying special attention to the health condition of other members. If you notice changes in your physical condition, such as a fever during after-school activities, be sure to comply with the instructions described below and report to the Student Affairs Section Life Services Office (092-642-2246).
Those who participate hereafter in competitions or gatherings as part of their after-school activities are requested to take preventative measures against infection.
