Redox Navi Institute Opened

    On August 10, 2007, a dedication ceremony for the “InnovationCenter for Medical Redox Navigation” was held at Centennial HallKyushuUniversity School of Medicine.

This center, approved as part of the Creation of an Innovation Center for Advanced Interdisciplinary Research Areas (funding period: ten years in principle/budget: approximately \300 million) funded by MEXT’s 2007 budget for the promotion of science and technology, is a project for the promotion of analysis, early detection and treatment, and drug discovery of redox-related diseases (lifestyle-related diseases) with cooperation among medical, pharmaceutical, agricultural and engineering sciences, and businesses.

 

 Following addresses by President Chisato Kajiyama, who directs the center, and Mr. Kenichi Uehara from the science and technology policy bureau of MEXT, Professor Hideo Utsumi (shown at the top of the photo), a faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and director of the center, explained the project details and introduced each research group and cooperating organization (the businesses).

In closing, Mr. Yoichi Sugioka, a former president of KyushuUniversity and a member of the center’s advisory committee, expressed his high expectations for this center.

 

 The Redox Navi Institute is expected to develop research results that will be effective in helping maintain people’s health in an increasingly ageing society.
