On July 29, 2013 (Monday), former Malaysian Prime Mahathir bin Mohamad visited hydrogen-related facilities on the Ito Campus as a field inspection of advanced science research.
Mr. Mahathir inspected the International Research Center for Hydrogen Energy after receiving explanations about the outline of Kyushu University’s hydrogen project from Director Kazunari Sasaki of the research center. At the laboratory, he received an outline of the research from a Malaysian student studying at Kyushu University and asked questions.
At the hydrogen station, Mr. Mahathir inspected a hydrogen generator, a pressure accumulating tank and a dispenser and took a trial ride in a fuel cell vehicle.
Subsequently, he visited the Research Center for Hydrogen Industrial Use and Storage (HYDROGENIUS), where he received an outline of the center from Director Joichi Sugimura and inspected its facilities.
After completing the inspection, former Prime Minister Mahathir said the visit had given him a good opportunity to inspect advanced research activities and learn about the hydrogen project.
