The world first yellow azalea

The Faculty of Agriculture was established in February 1919 and has developed steadily while making great strides in the fields of research and education of agricultural science and technology. These areas of innovation include biological control, food science and technology, genetic resources and biotechnology. The Faculty aims at research and education in the development of advanced technology using biological resources for environmental conservation in the 21st century.
We are entering a new era of applied biology supported by a profound understanding of nature and by the advancement of gene manipulation, protein engineering and cell fusion. These advances have not only improved exising biological techniques, but also made it possible to design innovative, hitherto unknown, methodologies and techniques. Our research and education programs incorporate a broad spectrum of disciplines including: biological, chemical, physiomathematical, social and environmental sciences.
The Faculty now comprises eight departments and five research and education facilities that include the University Farm, University Forests, Fishery Research Laboratory, Institute of Biological Control and Institute of Genetic Resources. The School of Agriculture comprises four courses. In addition, the Biotron Institute and the Institute of Tropical Agriculture of Kyushu University are closely associated with the Faculty.

Each department, assisted by the research and education facilities, offers programs in its area of specialization for both undergraduate and graduate students.
Current student enrollment is 1,720, of which 989 are undergraduate students and 731 are graduate students. More than 105 international students (mostly graduate students) have come to study from various countries.
The faculty members and staff members total 428, of which the number of full-time researchers is 191, including 61 professors, 69 associate professors, 2 assistant professors and 59 research associates.
