The
Graduate School of Human-Environment
Studies was newly established
in April 1998 by merging the Faculty
of Education, sections of the
Department of Human Science from
within the Faculty of Letters,
and the Department of Architecture
from the Faculty of Engineering.
The Center for Clinical Psychology
and Human Development and sections
of the Institute of Health Science
were also joined as cooperative
faculties. On the basis of this
administrative fusion, the School
aims to create a new interdisciplinary
field of Human-Environment Studies
that integrates education, psychology,
clinical psychology, sociology,
architecture and health science
for the purpose of investigating
issues related to human environments
in the twenty-first century.
The School consists
of six departments: Urban Design,
Planning and Disaster Management;
Clinical Psychology and Community
Studies; Behavioral and Health
Sciences; Education; Architecture;
and Clinical Psychology Practice
(Professional Graduate School).
As shown through the organizational
structure, teaching and research
in the school is intended to cover
very broad fields while also encouraging
scholars and students from diverse
backgrounds to work together on
the challenges of this century.
In all courses
of study in the School special
examination arrangements are provided
for both international and mature
students. The School is committed
to nurturing talented people who
will have a deep insight and rigorous
expertise in human environments
around the world. |

| Further,
to better promote interdisciplinary
research activities and
create new academic paradigms
relating to human environments,
The Faculty of Human Environment
Studies was established
in April 2000. The research
organization of this Faculty
is composed of three departments:
the Department of Human
Sciences, the Department
of Education and the Department
of Architecture and Urban
Design. |
