The
Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences
was founded in April 1950 as the
Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences
within the Faculty of Medicine.
It then gained its status as a
twodepartment faculty in April
1964 with the addition of the
Department of Pharmaceutical Technology.
At present there are 20 laboratories
with a student body of 339. The
Graduate Division of Pharmaceutical
Sciences was established in 1953
and was reorganized with the addition
of the course for Medicopharmaceutical
Sciences in 1992. At present 217
students are pursuing graduate
studies in 20 laboratories. With
its 52-year history and numerous
research achievements, the faculty
has greatly contributed to the
advancement of learning and is
a recognized leader in its field.
The chief educational objective
of the faculty has been the training
of students capable of actively
contributing to the advancement
of pharmaceutical sciences in
their capacity as research scientists,
educators and technical experts.
The number of
graduates since its founding totals
3,590 (including 41 under the
old system). In addition, 1,684
students have completed the Masterfs
Course and 900 have received the
degree of Doctor of Pharmaceutical
Sciences. These graduates are
now working in a variety of universities,
research institutes, companies
and hospitals. The implementation
of cooperative |
|
programs (including exchange
visits for purposes of teaching
and research) with countries
in Europe, North America
and Asia, is currently underway
with the goal of consistently
improving our contribution
to international cooperation.
Over the past 25 years,
57 international students
have been awarded the degree
of Doctor of Pharmaceutical
Sciences through the Graduate
School.
In April
2006, the Department of
General Pharmaceutical Sciences
was reorganized into two
departments, the Department
of Clinical Pharmacy (six-year
program aimed at producing
pharmacists or drug specialists
in the clinical fields)
and the Department of Medicinal
Sciences (four-year program
aimed at producing research
scientists and technical
experts in the fields of
drug development with 2-year
Masterfs course). The Graduate
Divisions and the Faculty
of Pharmaceutical Sciences
were also reorganized. |
