English for Science and Technology (EST) ProgramFour students of the School of Agriculture who achieved a TOEFL-iBT score of 80 or higher participated in an advanced English-language learning program (August 9 to September 6) at the University of California, Davis Extension. They studied natural sciences in English together with students from countries around the world and acquired advanced debating and presentation skills. In principle, credits obtained through these overseas study programs are recognized as credits of the School of Agriculture. We encourage students, mainly those who achieved a TOEFL-iBT score of 80 or higher, to take basic subject classes of agriculture given in English in the G30 International Course. In addition, we will adjust the curriculum contents and the semester period so as to enable the exchange of credits between the international course and the standard course for Japanese students, thereby expanding the range of classes given in English that can be shared between the international and standard courses. We will open intensive classes to enhance the faculty members’ skills in teaching in English. We will also implement an overseas study program for the administrative staff and open intensive classes to improve their English skills. Participants from outside the Faculty of Agriculture will also be accepted as appropriate so that the program can be extended university-wide.Now, a little more than one year from the start of this program, we keenly feel students’ eagerness to study in English from an international perspective. As this program is important as a model for the establishment of the global education system that Kyushu University aims for, we will continue to strive to make it a fruitful program.20Kyudai News No.25Joint Classes with the G30 International Course of the School of AgricultureEnhancement of English skills of the faculty members and administrative staff3Students participating in the EST program at University of California, DavisGlobal Human Resource DevelopmentProject for Promotion of Students at the National BaVi Forest in VietnamStudents at the Orchid Farm in ThailandClose Up
