As the gateway to Asia, Fukuoka’s exchangeswith the continent have flourished for centuries, so I believethat we should leverage this strength. In fact, even beforethe war, Kyushu University used to accept internationalstudents from Asia. What is your dream for the future of KyushuUniversity?I want to turn this into a university in which students, staffand faculty members are delighted to have the opportunityto share the same time and space during their lives here. I’dlike students, staff and faculty members to become acohesive whole not only through research and education, but also via sport and a variety of other extracurricularactivities. Such experiences promote personal growth, generating the momentum to feed the fruits of their laborsback into society. I hope that they’ll also pass on theirexperience to their junior colleagues and the youngerstudents. I myself have been fortunate enough to have hadmany wonderful experiences at Kyushu University, so I’dlike to tell the younger generation about these.
