Nishijin Plaza was established in
October 2001 as part of the memorial events celebrating the 80th
anniversary of the foundation of Kyushu University.
This plaza promotes the international
scientific research and community cooperation as well as providing
information for the research activities, which leads to enhancement of
educational studies at the university.
The facility consists of three floors. The first floor is used for
information sharing, conference rooms and educational training rooms are on
the second and third floor respectively.
This area was once the site of the
lodgings for the expatriate teachers who worked at the former Fukuoka High School. With one of large buildings well
preserved as before, the long history of Kyushu University
can be traced through the area.
The plaza is also strategically located in the center of the
university major areas; Ito, Chikushi and Hospital areas, making it ideal
for a satellite facility.
It is our hope that the Nishijin Plaza
will continue to serve as the key place for interdisciplinary studies and
information sharing at Kyushu University in the 21st century.
