International Conference: Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Algorithms
Lectures, etc. Ito Campus Applications open
In 2007, the International Programs in Law of the Kyushu University's Faculty of Law started to organize the Kyushu University's Annual Law Symposium. In 2019, we will organize the 12th edition. The theme chosen for this edition is "Multidisciplinary Perspectives on Algorithms: Regulation, Governance, Markets."
Algorithms are increasingly controlling, shaping, governing or regulating products, decisions, and judgments. Yet, these algorithms are often ‘black boxes’, identifying that there is still lots of obscurity surrounding their operation. To prevent that this leads to either under- or over-regulation, a better understanding of the debates on algorithms across disciplines is necessary.
To achieve such an understanding, our aim is to bring together experts with a background in technology, economics, sociology, and ethics to address the many uncertainties — both practical and normative — surround the scope, direction and effects of algorithms and related technologies. This international and multi-disciplinary event aims to contribute to a better understanding of the diverse and complex issues surrounding the emergence of algorithms.
