Classes During Fall & Winter 2020

Release date: 2020.09.09

Notices Important

To All Kyushu University Students,

We realize the inconveniences caused to students during the spring and summer semesters due to prevention measures for COVID-19 such as remote learning and campus entry restrictions. And with your cooperation, we have successfully concluded spring and summer semester classes without any significant problems.

Today we inform you of the course policies and procedures for fall and winter semesters. While the COVID-19 situation is still uncertain and ongoing, and in principle, classes will continue to be held online, we will again introduce in-person classes incrementally, but only after taking all possible measures to prevent infection. As we prepare to meet again in person, we ask that students begin to prepare for the fall semester.

As a university, we are implementing measures to keep students safe from COVID-19, but ultimately it is the awareness of each student that will prevent infection. Please confirm the following as you prepare for the start of the fall semester.

■ Classes During Fall & Winter 2020

Throughout the fall and winter semesters (until Friday, February 12, 2021), classes will continue to be conducted online. However, in-person instruction may be allowed for some courses and research guidance where required or desired. This will be decided at the discretion of the deans of each faculty and school upon the careful consideration of student circumstances and needs, classroom sizes, the number of students, and educational effects. Similarly, final examinations may take place in the classroom for courses where remote evaluation is difficult.

We take infection prevention seriously when conducting in-person instruction. Infection prevention measures will be implemented according to guidelines and confirmed using the appropriate checklists.

Each school and faculty is considering how best to conduct classes after the fall semester, so please check your faculty website and student portal regularly for more information.

■ If you have a fever / If you know you have been infected with COVID-19

If you experience relatively mild cold symptoms, such as fever or cough, you do not need to come to campus. Please call your Student Affairs Section by telephone and consult them first. If you have been infected, or if you are designated as having had close contact with someone with COVID-19, please contact your Student Affairs Section immediately.

Regardless of infection, you are eligible to receive an official absence, so be sure to consult your Student Affairs Section. You can find contact information for your Student Affairs Section at the URL below.

■ If you have a pre-existing medical condition

For in-person classes, separate considerations will be made for students who are at high risk of infection, such as those who have pre-existing medical conditions, so be sure to consult your Student Affairs Section. You can find contact information for your Student Affairs Section at the URL below.
