Transfer The New Campus
− The Next Step−
As reported in the last edition of Kyudai News, Kyushu University decided in 1991 to relocate two of its four major campuses to the Moto-oka area on the western outskirts of Fukuoka City. Plans for land development at Moto-oka were confirmed in May 1998, and this March, provisional arrangements were made to create a series of zones on the new campus and outline a schedule for relocating university departments from their present sites. These provisional arrangements are as follows:
Zoning
Located on either side of the prefectural road that will provide the main access route to the new campus, the Central Zone will consist of an Administration Bureau, general education institutes and student exchange buildings. The Arts and Social Science Zone will be to the east of this Central Zone while the Science and Engineering Zone will occupy a larger site to the west. The Central Library will be in the middle of the Arts and Social Science Zone, flanked on its western side by the Graduate School of Social and Cultural Studies, the Graduate School of Human-Environment Studies and the Institute of Languages and Cultures. The graduate schools and the undergraduate schools of Letters, Law and Economics will be in the eastern part of the zone.
In the middle of the Science and Engineering Zone there will be a Science Library and Information Center, and the area between this and the Central Zone will be occupied by the graduate schools and the undergraduate schools of Science and Engineering, and also the graduate schools of Mathematics, Information Science and Electrical Engineering. The western part of the Science and Engineering Zone will provide the site for the Graduate School of Bioresource and Bioenvironmental Sciences and other institutions.
