15 Kyudai News No.26 Dr.ENakamuraOsswearing-inEceremonyOn May 30, 2014 (Friday),approximately 550 people,including students and facultymembers of Kyushu University,attended Tetsu Nakamura’sswearing in ceremony forbecoming a University Professorand his commemorative lectureat SHIIKI HALL in Ito Campus.This event was organized by theInstitute for Advanced Study tocelebrate Dr. Nakamura’sassumption of office.Dr. Nakamura, ExecutiveDirector of Peace (Japan)Medicai Services (PMS) andRepresentative of Peshawar-kai*in Pakistan and Afghanistan,graduated from KyushuUniversity School of Medicine in1973.Following the opening remarksby Yoh Iwasa, Director of theInstitute for Advanced Study, Dr.Arikawa who was President ofKyushu University at that timegave the appointment letter toDr. Nakamura.“I am deeply honored towelcome Dr. Nakamura, who hasbeen making a lifelongcontribution to improvingpeople’s lives in Pakistan andAfghanistan, to KyushuUniversity as a UniversityProfessor”, stated Dr. Arikawa.YouEcanEchangeEandEenhanceEdailyElifeIn the commemorative lecture,Dr. Nakamura told the story ofhis 30 years of contributiontoward changing both the livingenvironment and the entirecommunity in abandoned ruralareas of Pakistan andAfghanistan.“You can change and enhancedaily life if you see therelationship between humanbeings and nature throughdiverse perspective”, Dr.Nakamura explained.For the final program of theevent, an open discussion wasmoderated by students and Dr.Nakamura answered anddiscussed questions from theaudience.Dr. Nakamura’s swearing‐in ceremonyDr. TetsuNakamuraCommemorativeLectureClose Up 01* "kai" means "association."
