| KUFSA trip to Nagasaki |
Kyushu University Foreign Students Association (KUFSA) is an organization for all foreign students studying at Kyushu University. This year, the total number of members has reached 875. The main objective of KUFSA is to create a comfortable and pleasant environment for foreign students and to make their stay here in Japan memorable. In order to achieve this, KUFSA has devoted its valuable time and energy in performing the following tasks: (a) Provide guidance and information necessary for living in Fukuoka, especially to the new students. (b) Promote mutual understanding and friendship between foreign students and Japanese students, organizations, and citizens. (c) Organize different social and cultural events, sports and recreational activities throughout the year. The most attractive feature of KUFSA is that all its activities take place in an international atmosphere. It will continue to strive in its effort to create an environment of mutual understanding among the different cultures and ways of life. In this regard, the Kyushu University Foreign Students Center has always made it a point to provide cooperation and assistance to KUFSA's activities. KUFSA also carries out a lot of its multicultural activities in collaboration with other organizations, from within and without, Kyushu University.
KUFSA joined Dontaku Parade KUFSA publishes a bi-monthly newsletter that is rich with useful information about events & activities and also features, a picture montage chronicling the past events and activities. Foreign students contribute to it by writing about their home country, their culture, and sometimes even their personal experiences. This newsletter therefore shows that the students of Kyushu University enjoy a "Multicultural" campus atmosphere throughout the year. An example of its multicultural event, which is actually one of the biggest in terms of attendance, is the Christmas and Year-End Party.
Kyushu University has gained a reputation of being "Internationalized" in its academic research and education strategy. International exchange programs abound and are greatly encouraged. Because of this, Kyushu University is now accepting a greater number of overseas students each year. These foreign students enjoy a sound and peaceful environment in which to conduct their research and to develop their careers. Aside from the usual learning and research facilities, it also offers to the foreign students many of its other facilities. An example is the International Students dormitory located in gKashiihama.h All the residents of the gKaikanh (as it is known to all students) are delighted with its existing facilities and the healthy living environment that it provides. Because of the resulting close interaction of all the students with their counterparts of different races, nationalities, religious beliefs, etc. within the Kaikan, hopefully they also learn, apart from the education that they receive from the University, from this interaction. This will better prepare them to deal with the critical issues confronting today's world. Needless to say, KUFSA has been helping in this aspect by being a host for numerous "International and Multicultural" activities among the foreign students.
The 21st century will see the continuing expansion of the gGlobal Society.h And for as long as students from different countries and regions throughout the world will continue to come to Kyushu University to pursue their academic and career goals, KUFSA will still be here. Spontaneous participation of all foreign and Japanese students in all KUFSA activities serves as inspiration for KUFSA. It is also grateful to the Kyushu University authorities, sponsor organizations, and the various volunteer organizations for their logistical and financial support and for the help that they always extend. KUFSA hopes that its members will act as representatives in creating an international network throughout the world.
