Cherry Blossoms
In the beginning of April, the cherry trees
are at their most beautiful. We can enjoy the
beautiful cherry trees at the campuses of
Kyushu University. After a short time, the
petals begin to fall off and cherry blossom
blowing in the wind welcomes the freshmen
to Kyushu University.
On the 8th of May, the actor Ken Takakura
visited Kyushu University along with Mr. Tan
Takaiwa, the president of Japanese film
company, Toei Company Ltd. Every year,
Kyushu University invites its graduates who
are active in society to give a lecture for
freshmen, and this year, Mr. Takaiwa, a
graduate of Faculty of Economics, Kyushu
University in 1954 was invited as one of the
lecturers. His lecture started after the
screen showing of Toei's latest movie,
"Hotaru (firefly)." In the middle of the lecture,
the leading actor of the movie, Mr.
Takakura appeared in the classroom to the
great surprise of the students. One of the
students asked Mr. Takakura, “What do you
think I should do, as a 20-year-old now?”
His answer was: "Meet many people who
you will miss
after you have
said goodbye to
them." All of the
students greeted
Mr.Takakura’s
every word with
applause.
