CAP in Guam 2023, which was offered as a Kikan Education General Course, was held at the University of Guam on 21-30 August, 2023. Associate Professor Hiroko Kinoshita of the International Student Center and the lecturers from UOG aimed to develop problem-finding and problem-solving skills through various lectures and field trips.

The lectures, given entirely in English, covered the topics such as Guam's history and culture, sea turtle biology and ocean restoration, drone technology in the Pacific region, and leadership skills. Also, the students took a field trip to the UOG Guam Green Growth Circular Economy Makerspace and Innovation Hub.

After the program, one of the participating students commented, "I learned a lot from the lectures given by various professors on a variety of topics, and I was happy to make friends with the participants and tutors regardless of nationality, faculty or grade."

While more than half of the students had never been abroad, the lectures by UOG lecturers and the field trips provided valuable and meaningful time for the participating students. The program will cultivate the power of proactivity and problem-solving skills of students.

College of Asia Pacific

The College of Asia Pacific (CAP) is a short-term study abroad and international education collaborative program for Japanese and international students.

Participants study with university students from the Asia Pacific region to learn about common issues in the wider Asia region through collaborative learning in the form of problem-based learning (PBL) and team-based learning (TBL). Participants learn firsthand differences in the way in which people perceive and solve problems as the program promotes intellectual exchanges among students with different cultural and social backgrounds.

With a view to studying abroad for a longer period of time in the future, students have the opportunity to join the international community and take a first step toward becoming global citizens.
