Thinking about the Future: Cultural Diversity and Social Inclusion

Lecture, etc. Registration closed

We are glad to announce that we are now opening the attendance registration for this year’s cluster project, titled ‘Thinking about the Future: Cultural Diversity and Social Inclusion’, at Kyushu University’s Asia Week 2021 organized by the Cluster of Society and Disaster Prevision, Kyushu University Institute for Asian and Oceanian Studies (Q-AOS).
This project will deliberate on the ideal form and prospects of a society consisting of people from different backgrounds. This will be done while consciously considering various barriers which exist in the contemporary world – particularly from the perspective of cultural policies and practices in Asian cities, including those in Japan.
This conference consists of two parts: in Part 1, we will hold a symposium to discuss cultural policy and art projects via comparisons of examples from Australia, Korea, Singapore, and Japan. We invite Dr Rimi Khan – lecturer at RMIT International University Vietnam specialising in cultural studies, multiculturalism, cultural policy, and youth culture – as a special guest to join our other guests from Japan.
Part 2 involves researchers, practitioners, civil servants, and citizens; thus, it is more casual than Part 1. This part includes a drama workshop organized by Ms Chieko Honda of the Piccolo Theatre in Hyogo Prefecture and where twenty-five participants will learn how to transcend cultural barriers. After the workshop, we will invite three drama practitioners and organizations – the Kani City Cultural Creation Center (ala) the Hyogo Prefectural Amagasaki Youth Creation Theatre, the Piccolo Theatre, and the Mr Takuya Murakawa Drama Practitioners – to provide a platform for discussing the arts activities with/by the foreign residents.
