Kyushu University and Former Faculty of Engineering Main Building

In March 2023, the modern buildings of the former Kyushu Imperial University (now Kyushu University Hakozaki Satellite), including the main building of the former Faculty of Engineering, were designated as the first registered tangible cultural properties of Kyushu University.
The Hakozaki campus was the center of Kyushu University for about 100 years until 2018, when the relocation to Ito was completed, after the establishment of Kyushu Imperial University as the fourth imperial university in Japan with the establishment of the Institute of Technology in 1911 in Aza Jizo Matsubara, Hakozaki-cho. Located near the main gate, the main building of the former Faculty of Engineering is the representative building of Kyushu University in the Hakozaki area, and in March 2023, the modern buildings of the former Kyushu Imperial University (now Kyushu University Hakozaki Satellite), including the main building of the Faculty of Engineering, were designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property. Although Kyushu University has moved to Ito, the Kyushu University Archives and the Kyushu University Museum are still located in the main building of the former Faculty of Engineering.
This exhibition introduces the history of the former main building of the Faculty of Engineering, which was preserved as a symbol of the first 100 years of Kyushu University; the valuable Kranz specimens and engineering materials and models (Ashio Copper Mine-related materials, rock drill models, etc.) collected in the early days of the Faculty of Engineering; and the General Research Museum and Archives, which continue to operate today at the Hakozaki satellite, The current status of the Faculty of Engineering, which has moved to Ito, will also be introduced.
