On Monday, October 3, 2011, the entrance ceremony of the International Undergraduate Program for academic year 2011 was held at Inamori Center on the Ito Campus of Kyushu University.

This is the second year since the International Program opened in the faculties of engineering and agriculture in October of 2010, and twenty-one students enrolled in the courses on this occasion.

The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests including Do Minh Son, the Consul at the Consulate-General of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam in Fukuoka; Jason R. Cubas, Principal Officer at the Consulate of the United States in Fukuoka; Michael J. Chadwick, Fukuoka American Center Director and Consul for Public Affairs at the Consulate of the United States in Fukuoka; and Jon Gil Hyong, Vice Consul from the Consulate-General of the Republic of Korea in Fukuoka. From the university, President Setsuo Arikawa and over one hundred faculty members including trustees, auditors, the vice president, Executive Advisers to the President, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture were present.

At the beginning of the ceremony, President Arikawa delivered an address, saying, “I really hope you will all grow up to be persons with warm and generous hearts so that you can play an active role in the international community.” Then Consul Do Minh Son’s guest speech was followed by the introduction of the newly enrolled students (sixteen for the Faculty of Engineering and five for the Faculty of Agriculture). To conclude the ceremony, on behalf of the new students, Adiguna Bahari of the Faculty of Agriculture, from Indonesia, made a speech touching on his ambition. “I want to be able to develop myself as well as make the world a better place.”

After the ceremony, a lunch reception was held at Big Orange, where the new students enjoyed talking with other students and faculty members of the International Undergraduate Program, senior international students, and staff members who assist international students.
