| The new student dormitories – Ito Harmony House (capacity: 611 students) and Dormitory III (capacity: 136 students), at which international students and Japanese students will live side-by-side at the Ito Campus – have been completed. Ito Harmony House and Dormitory III will be mixed dormitories for both international and Japanese students and it is hoped that they will (1) serve as a base where international students starting their lives in Japan can become accustomed to the Japanese way of life and interact with Japanese students; and (2) become venues for a rich variety of cross-cultural exchange and improving foreign-language communication skills by enabling international students and Japanese students to live under the same roof. Moreover, it is hoped that this will help to cultivate personnel with a global outlook. The area of the Ito Campus where the newly completed Ito Harmony House and Dormitory III are located, along with the existing Dormitories I and II, is positioned as the university’s Global Zone. Kyushu University intends that it should become the venue for a variety of exchange activities with a distinctly international character, not only for students, but also for others in the local community.
