On April 4, 2018 (Wednesday), the matriculation ceremony was held at SHIIKI HALL for 2,633 freshly enrolled students. Following the celebration concert by Kyudai Philharmonic Orchestra, President Kubo delivered a welcoming address and Ms. Sari Nomura gave a speech as a representative of the new students.
Students listened with attention to the speech by guest speaker Dr. Koichi Wakata, astronaut and Vice President of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). He has once spent time at Kyushu University earning his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degree.
New students attended Freshman Orientation soon after the ceremony and the university's Male Choir Chor Akademie, Ouendan (cheer group), and cheerleading club gave rousing performances to welcome the new students to Kyushu University.
Before the ceremony for undergraduate students, the matriculation ceremony for graduate students was held on the same day and a total of 2,528 graduate students were admitted. Mr. Kentaro Morita gave a speech as a representative of the new graduate students.
