Sponsored by the International Society for Teaching Debate (ISTD) and co-sponsored by Kyushu University’s Faculty of Languages & Cultures, the 2nd International Conference on Parliamentary Debate Education was held at Kyushu University’s Ito Campus on August 12, 2019.
Debate experts, professors, librarians, and business persons from South Korean, China, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Japan were invited as speakers, and they brought their diverse perspectives to discuss the current situations, achievements, and future perspectives of debate education in each of their countries.
The conference was attended by a wide range of people interested in debate—from high school and Kyushu University students to high school English teachers, and even the current Japanese record holder for the number of titles in impromptu "parliamentary" debate tournaments—showing that there is a real interest, and need, for debate education.
Kyushu University will continue to expand its debate education programs and provide opportunities for students and the wider community to discuss issues through debate.
A part of the 2nd international conference is now available on YouTube.
