On Friday, January 21, 2022, Kyushu University (Kyushu U) and Dalian University of Technology (DUT) jointly held an online ceremony to mark the 35th anniversary of their partnership.
Kyushu U’s Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Engineering Sciences signed an inter-departmental exchange agreement with DUT in 1986. Since then, both universities have collaborated quite actively. Such a strong partnership in the field of engineering led to the conclusion of a university-wide exchange agreement in 2020. Additionally, DUT kindly donated surgical masks to Kyushu U when the current pandemic began.
At the ceremony, President Ishibashi (Kyushu U) and President Guo Dongming (DUT) delivered remarks on behalf of their respective universities, expressing their gratitude for the long-standing friendships and their expectations for the further development of the exchange. Also present as guests of honor were Mr. LYU Guijun, Consul-General of the People's Republic of China in Fukuoka; Mr. Shinji Kumano, Vice-Consul of Consular Office of Japan in Dalian; and Ms. Haruko Yoneyama, Executive Director of Japan Science and Technology Agency.
At Kyushu U, the Center for International Engineering Education (CIEE, which is affiliated with the Faculty of Engineering) serves as the primary point of contact and exchange with DUT. As an example of recent activity, 16 students from the School/Graduate School of Engineering participated in the "China-Japan University Student Friendship Exchange Conference（中日大学学生友好交流大会）" hosted by DUT in April 2019. Prof. Chen Qiang, Director of CIEE, also spoke at the occasion, stressing that CIEE will actively continue to promote collaboration with DUT.
While the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic continues to interrupt physical researcher and student exchange, Kyushu U and DUT will pursue various forms of cooperation based on their strong ties.
