On September 25, 2023, Kyushu University's 2023 Fall Commencement was held at Shiiki Hall, Ito Campus, conferring degrees to a total of 408 students (67 in the bachelor's program, 187 in the master's program, and 154 in the doctoral program).
The commencement was attended by graduates who had fulfilled their degree requirements since April of this year. Kyushu University also invited President Wen-Chang Chen from our new strategic partner, National Taiwan University, as the guest of honor. Since many international students attended, the commencement was conducted in English.
After President Ishibashi conferred degrees to representatives of each program, he delivered the President’s address. In his address, he gave the following warm words of encouragement to the graduates, who had completed their studies with great courage despite the restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic:
"Now, step out to the world and seek your bright future. Do not fear the difficulties and challenges you face. We are always the biggest supporters of your new journey."
Next, Guo Xuanru, a doctoral student from the Graduate School of Design, gave the following words on behalf of the graduates in his address in reply: "I wish that the quality of its education and the atmosphere of scientific innovation and research in Kyushu University will continue to grow. "
The guest of honor, President Wen-Chang Chen of National Taiwan University, encouraged graduates with his inspirational words saying, "Have the courage to try and take risks, to realize your ideals, and ensure that your youth is not left unfulfilled. Maintain an attitude of diligent learning in all that you do, act with sincerity, and embrace the present as you step into the future. "
The commencement was an impressive ceremony that celebrated the new journey of the graduates.
