Kyushu University jumps to third place in Japan in international sustainability Impact Rankings

On June 12, 2024, the latest results of the Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings for 2024 highlighted Kyushu U’s significant achievements. This ranking is based on each university’s social contribution toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It provides Impact Rankings for individual SDGs and an overall Impact Ranking that integrates scores across multiple SDGs to reflect overall performance and impact. This year marks Kyushu U’s third participation in the rankings. Kyushu U ranked within the top 50 worldwide in three areas: 22nd in SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation; 27th in SDG 9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure; and 34th in SDG 2: Zero hunger. In addition, Kyushu U also ranked 51st in SDG 14: Life below water and 61st in SDG 1: No poverty. Overall, Kyushu U was ranked in the top 100 worldwide for five SDGs— a significant leap forward from last year's results. The improved ranking reflects Kyushu U’s consistent dedication to education and research activities related to each SDG.

Going forward, Kyushu U will continue to strengthen education, research, and collaboration on the SDGs through integrative knowledge to progress toward a sustainable society.
