On November 7, 2024, a recognition ceremony was held at Ito Campus for the Association of the Alumni of Kyushu University in Mongolia. The association was officially registered as one of Kyushu University’s overseas alumni associations in September 2024.

The event was facilitated by Executive Vice President Yoshimi Sonoda, who is in charge of Alumni Associations. Kyushu University President Tatsuro Ishibashi, President Sarangerel Batbayar of the Association of the Alumni of Kyushu University in Mongolia, and Honorary Consul Shiitev Altan-Erdene of the Honorary Consulate of Mongolia in Fukuoka delivered remarks. The certificate and the university flag were presented to President Batbayar to mark the official recognition as one of Kyushu University’s overseas alumni associations.

After the ceremony, the participants exchanged opinions on the relationship between Mongolia and Kyushu University.

Kyushu University has been working to create new networks among Japanese university faculty, alumni, and the community in the Asia-Oceania region through the Kyushu University Forum “KYUDAI NOW”. “KYUDAI NOW” was held in Mongolia in August this year, where President Ishibashi attended and exchanged the latest information with the Mongolian delegation. Furthermore, to mark the 750th anniversary of the Mongol invasion of Japan, the Japan-Mongolia International History Symposium was held at Kyushu University in November to deepen exchanges.

Recognizing the Association of the Alumni of Kyushu University in Mongolia will promote further collaboration between Kyushu University and universities in Mongolia, including encouraging the acceptance of international students from Mongolia to Kyushu University and strengthening mutual relationships.

Kyushu University has been diligently pursuing stronger ties with alumni associations both in Japan and overseas.

Several overseas alumni associations have already joined the Kyushu University Alumni Association (*1), a federation of departmental alumni associations and regional alumni associations. To broaden the scope of exchange and collaboration, a new registration system for overseas alumni associations (*2) was launched in February 2020.
