Event details | Professor Koji Mizoguchi from Kyushu University’s Faculty of Social and Cultural Studies conducts archaeological research across the globe. Through the examination of ancient artifacts, he traces how human societies changed over time, and explores how communities become more complex and develop social hierarchies. By understanding the patterns from the past, Mizoguchi aims to gain insights that might help create a better, more just society in the future. Alongside his research, Mizoguchi serves as Vice President of ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) Japan, dedicating himself to the protection of cultural, archaeological and architectural heritage. In July 2024, Mizoguchi was elected an "International Fellow" of the British Academy, the first Japanese archaeologist and the first researcher from Kyushu University to receive such an honor.
