Kyushu University Open Badge

An Open Badge is a digital certificate issued in accordance with a global technical standard, which certifies knowledge and skills. At Kyushu University, we are a member of the Open Badge Network Foundation and can issue badges compliant with the Open Badge 3.0 standard.

Features

• Digital Certification: Issued and managed as data, not as paper certificates.
• International Standard: Issued in compliance with international technical standards, enabling interoperability across domestic and international platforms (Kyushu University follows the 1EdTech standard).
• High Reliability: Uses technologies such as blockchain to prevent forgery or tampering, ensuring a highly reliable certification.
• Embedded Metadata: Badge image data securely contains metadata such as issuer, recipient, and details of certified skills and knowledge.

Applications

• Visualization of Skills and Learning History: Objectively certifies various skills and learning achievements, such as qualifications, training completion, and project outcomes.
• Wallet Management: Received badges can be centrally managed in a personal “Open Badge Wallet.”
• Easy Sharing: Attach or display badges in email signatures, SNS, or resumes to easily showcase skills during job hunting and allow instant verification.
  
  
  

Kyushu University issues Open Badges for:
1 Educational program approved by the President of the University, including Sub-major Programs and Certificate Programs; and
2 Courses approved by the heads of faculties, graduate schools, or other academic units, including public lectures and training programs.

Those who successfully complete a program or course are awarded an Open Badge corresponding to the category of the educational program or course and the learning outcomes achieved.

Kyushu University's Open Badges use a standardized design across the University. The badges are differentiated by educational level, with distinct formats for undergraduate- and graduate-level achievements and are color-coded according to the amount of learning time required.
