Research Funding Support

Kyushu University provides the following services to support researchers in securing research funding.

Support for Foreign Competitive Research Funding When applying for overseas grants, the Research Planning and Research Support Group collaborates with relevant administrative departments within the university and communicates with funding agency representatives and coordinating institutions to assist with the application process.
Promotion of Interdisciplinary Research / Joint Research To foster interdisciplinary collaboration, this program hosts seminars and workshops that encourage networking among researchers from diverse fields. These activities facilitate research matching and team building, creating opportunities for securing external funding and advancing innovative projects.

Research Start Program

To assist young researchers without prior KAKENHI experience in establishing research achievements, this program offers financial support together with Support for Research Funding and Grants.

Interdisciplinary Program of the Humanities and Social Sciences

We provide support for group research led by researchers in the humanities and social sciences, aiming to foster the creation of new value through “integrated knowledge” encompassing the natural sciences and design, and to advance transdisciplinary research.

Support for Article Processing Charge of International Academic Papers

We provide financial support to early-career researchers submitting papers to top 10% journals. Actual costs—such as submission fees, publication charges, web hosting fees, and open access fees (APCs)—are covered for accepted papers.

APC (Article Processing Charges) Support

When researchers at our university submit papers as the corresponding author to certain publishers with whom the university has a contract, the university provides partial support for the Article Processing Charges (APCs) required for open access publication.

World-leading Researchers Basic Training Program

To help young researchers acquire essential experience and research skills and enhance their academic capabilities, Kyushu University hosts a paper-writing workshop in collaboration with Springer Nature.

World-leading Researchers Training Program

Kyushu University offers funding for overseas training plans initiated by young researchers. The program requires applicants to spend a minimum of 180 days at a distinguished research institution abroad to engage in research activities.

Researcher Network Formation Program with Current/Prospective Strategic Partners

To foster new and expanded research and educational networks, this program offers funding for exchange plans involving researchers from Seoul National University or National Taiwan University, covering necessary expenses for carrying out the collaboration.

Support for Dispatch to International Academic Conference

The program offers assistance with travel, lodging, and registration costs for young, female, or international researchers presenting their work at international conferences and related academic events.
The Research Facilities Improvement Project Kyushu University has established a shared-use system for its research equipment and facilities to create and provide an environment where young researchers can focus on independent research, even with limited research funding.
Diversity and Super Global Training Program for Female and Young Faculty (SENTAN-Q) This training program targets outstanding female faculty members and young faculty members who are recommended by their departments and selected for participation. Participants undertake a two-year course that includes overseas training, and those who achieve the prescribed target level upon completion are promoted to higher positions.

Support for Continuing Research during Life Events such as Childbirth and Childcare

Kyushu University provides the following services to support the continuation of research during life events such as childbirth and childcare.

Support for the Employment of Research Assistants This program provides financial support for hiring research assistants to help researchers who face difficulties securing sufficient research time due to childbirth, childcare, or caregiving responsibilities.
Support for Returning from Maternity and Parental Leave This program provides financial support for expenses necessary to resume research activities, helping researchers who have temporarily suspended their work due to childbirth or childcare to return smoothly.
Remote Work System This system enables staff to work remotely to alleviate the challenges of pregnancy, childcare, and caregiving, promoting a better balance between professional duties and family life.
On-Campus Nursery On-campus nursery facilities (Himawari Nursery and Takenoko Nursery) are operated for faculty, staff, and students.
Babysitter Fee Subsidy Program This program issues discount vouchers for babysitter dispatch services and subsidizes part of the fees incurred when using in-home childcare services.
Child Accompaniment Travel Subsidy Program Researchers who need to accompany their child on a business trip for academic conferences or related activities may apply for Child Accompaniment Travel Subsidy Program.
Babysitter Expense Coverage Program for Academic Conferences When you are unable to care for your child due to business trips for academic conferences or other professional events, you may use babysitter or similar childcare services.
Departmental Support Program for Faculty Leave This program provides support to the department to which a faculty member belongs when the faculty member takes maternity leave, childcare leave, or family care leave, enabling the department to hire a new faculty member to maintain continuity of duties during the absence.
