Mathieu Denis, the Executive Director of ISSC paid a courtesy visit to President Kubo on Thursday the 19th of January, 2017. He officially conveyed to the President the ISSC’s final approval on the University’s host status for the 2018 WSSF.
The ISSC(:International Social Science Council) ,an independent NGO established by UNESCO in 1952, is the primary body representing the social, economic, and behavioural sciences at international level. The ISSC’S secretariat in Paris manages a dynamic portfolio of programs and activities aimed at strengthening the social sciences to help global priority problems and secure a sustainable future for everyone, through interdisciplinary discussions.
The series of World Social Science Forums is one of the ISSC’s flagship activities, and a great success the three previous Forums respectively achieved has made this series highly prestigious and influential in the global community.
In 2018, Kyushu University will host the WSSF, supported by Science Council of Japan (SCJ) and Japan Science and Technology (JST), which will ensure the Forum’s comprehensive coverage of social sciences, humanities and natural sciences that are necessary for the development of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research.
Through this meeting, it was reconfirmed that the first Asian WSSF would be a precious opportunity for the University to reaffirm its role as an academic and socio-economic hub in Asia, and that therefore it would be essential for the whole University to cooperate and make all-out endeavors to make it successful.
