The Times Higher Education (THE) Japan University Rankings 2020, released March 24, placed Kyushu University 5th out of nearly 760 institutions of higher education in Japan.

First launched in 2017, the ranking is primarily a measure of teaching and student learning, while its influential global counterpart THE World University Rankings focuses mainly on research and worldwide reputation.

The rankings are based on four pillars: Resources, Engagement, Outcomes, and Environment. In a repeat of its performance from last year, Kyushu University received its highest score in the Outcomes pillar (3rd overall in Japan), indicating that the university enjoys a high reputation among researchers and employers. In addition, in the Engagement pillar, which measures how current students and advisors of secondary school students view the school, Kyushu University moved up eleven ranks to 12th.

Kyushu University’s strong scores reaffirm its position as an excellent study destination for anyone interested in Japan.
