On December 5, Quacquarelli Symonds announced the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2024 for the second year to show how universities are taking action to tackle the world’s greatest environmental, social and governance (ESG) challenges. Kyushu U was ranked 170th out of 1,403 institutions, placing 5th among Japanese universities.
There are three categories to the rankings: environmental impact, social impact and a newly added category of governance. Kyushu U performed exceptionally well in the governance category, largely due to its sustainable development operations with clear ethical values including diversity, equity, and inclusion. Additionally, it earned recognition for research outcomes related to energy and biological resources, boosting its environmental impact score, and marked highly for social impact, due to its positive reputation in the employer survey.
All of Kyushu U’s efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can be found on the Kyushu University × SDGs website, and the complete rankings can be found on QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2024 website.
