From November 22 to December 6, 2024, the School of Engineering at Kyushu University hosted 20 students from the School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering at the University of Queensland (UQ), Australia. The students visited as part of the University of Queensland-Japan Program for Industry Experience (UQ-JPIE).
This short-term exchange program began in 2017 as a core exchange initiative between Kyushu University and UQ, with full cooperation from Professor Kazuhiro Nogita, a UQ professor and Kyushu University alumnus. The visit marked the second time in 2024 that the program was held, following its summer session.
During their stay, the students attended lectures and toured facilities at the university, visited multiple companies, and deepened their learning by observing the practical application of technology in the field, in addition to classroom learning.
Furthermore, Japanese students from the School of Engineering were paired up with UQ students as "buddies," engaging in various extracurricular activities. For example, they enjoyed the local cuisine and viewed Christmas illuminations on their days off, strengthening connections between the students.
Through this program, the students gained valuable experiences that broadened their international perspectives and deepened their practical knowledge.
