Kyushu University and Taiwanese Universities hold research workshop on UAAT–KOOU Project

A workshop to advance international collaboration on spin-valleytronics research was held at Kyushu University’s Ito Campus from June 9 to 11. The event brought together researchers from Kyushu and Taiwan, as part of a larger collaborative initiative between the University Academic Alliance in Taiwan (UAAT) and the Kyushu-Okinawa Open University (KOOU) in Japan.

During the workshop, the research teams shared updates and discussed future directions for their UAAT-KOOU research project, titled “Spin-valleytronics based on low-dimensional materials.”

The collaboration involves Professor Takashi Kimura and Associate Professor Shoko Nakamura from Kyushu University’s Faculty of Science, Professor Hiromi Yuasa from the Faculty of Information Science and Electrical Engineering, and a Taiwanese research team led by Professor Yann-Wen Lan of National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU). 

A total of 18 faculty members and graduate students from NTNU, National Taiwan University, and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University visited Kyushu University for the workshop. The program included progress reports from each research group, coordination of future research plans, and tours of research facilities. Between sessions, Kyushu University faculty members guided the visitors through experimental facilities and exchanged ideas on practical frameworks to aid collaboration, including measurement protocols and sample handling procedures.

Furthermore, from September 3 to 5, three faculty members and three graduate students from Kyushu University visited NTNU to review the project’s progress and tour NTNU’s research and prototyping facilities. During the visit, in-depth discussions were held on standardizing data sharing, coordinating timelines for sample provision and measurement, and planning short-term student exchanges and internships. These efforts further strengthened the foundation for collaborative research between the institutions.
