On September 11, eight faculty members and three graduate students from the Department of Electrophysics at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), a leading institution in semiconductor research in Taiwan, visited Kyushu University’s Ito Campus to participate in a joint workshop. The event focused on solid-state electronic physics and semiconductor properties related to next-generation electronics.

The workshop began with an introduction by Professor Chih-Wei Luo, Chair of the Department of Electrophysics at NYCU, who presented an overview of NYCU’s research and educational framework. Professor Takashi Kimura from Kyushu University followed with an introduction to the university and the Department of Physics within the Faculty of Science. Researchers from both institutions then shared their latest findings, incorporating technical background explanations, and engaged in active discussions on research approaches, measurement techniques, and potential device applications.

Through the workshop, the complementary strengths of both institutions in related fields became clear, and concrete opportunities for future collaboration were identified.

Among the visiting researchers was Professor Wen-bin Jian, who also serves as a visiting professor at Kyushu University’s Center for the Semiconductor Device Ecosystem (CSeDE). Kimura and Professor Hiroki Ago, both vice directors of CSeDE, also participated in the workshop. The event served as a valuable opportunity to further enhance the effectiveness of the collaborative framework led by the center.

Looking ahead, the two institutions held in-depth discussions on the following topics to build a sustainable partnership in both education and research:

  • Establishing frameworks for short-term student exchanges and internships
  • Establishing regular mutual visits and co-hosted seminars for early-career researchers
  • Identifying joint research themes, including co-applications for funding and joint presentations at international conferences

These efforts aim to steadily advance collaboration and foster long-term academic exchange.
