Delegation from Seoul National University Graduate School of Environmental Studies visits Kyushu University

On Friday, February 6, 2026, a delegation from the Graduate School of Environmental Studies (GSES) at Seoul National University (SNU), led by Dean Sun‑Jin Yun, visited Kyushu University’s Ito Campus. Hosted by Associate Professor Toshinori Tanaka of the Kyushu University Institute for Asian and Oceanian Studies (Q-AOS), the visit aimed further to strengthen research collaboration between Q-AOS and SNU’s GSES.

This visit followed the outcomes of the 5th Kyushu–SNU Joint Symposium, held at the Ito Campus in November 2025. Associate Professor Tanaka also served as the symposium host, during which both universities confirmed their intention to deepen faculty-level collaboration, particularly in environment and sustainability. This meeting served as an important opportunity to advance these efforts.

The meeting began with welcoming remarks from Professor Kenji Iwata, Kyushu University’s Executive Vice President for International Affairs. Dean Yun then delivered greetings on behalf of SNU, expressing appreciation for the ongoing collaboration and her expectations for further strengthening the partnership.
This was followed by an overview of Kyushu University and Q‑AOS, after which the SNU delegation introduced GSES's educational and research priorities. The participants then engaged in active discussions on future directions for joint research, educational exchange, and departmental collaboration. The conversation also included planning for the next Kyushu–SNU Joint Symposium.

After the meeting, the delegation joined a campus tour of key research and educational facilities on the Ito Campus, gaining deeper insight into Kyushu University’s environment and infrastructure.

The delegation also included Professor Booyuel Kim of SNU’s Graduate School of Environmental Studies, who concurrently serves as Deputy Vice President for International Affairs at SNU. Exchanges between the two universities have been steadily developing. In March 2025, Kyushu University Vice President Natalie Konomi visited SNU to discuss future collaboration frameworks and planning for the next joint symposium, contributing to ongoing multilayered dialogue.

This visit is expected to further advance the partnership between Kyushu University and Seoul National University, fostering new opportunities for international joint research and educational collaboration in environment and sustainability.
